Lower Schwarz Adult Dentition with "C" Clasps on the Bicuspids

When lower posterior segments (cuspids to molars) are tipped lingually, the anteriors are typically crowded significantly. In adult dentition, this condition can still be corrected with a Schwarz appliance. However, some simple modifications to the basic appliance design are required. For example, instead of leaving the labial bow distal to the cuspids -- where it can encroach upon the space needed for them to move -- the bow can be carried back to the bicuspids. To achieve the adequate retention needed to activate the springs, a “C” clasp can be soldered to the labial bow and placed on the second bicuspids (shown). By placing composite ledges, you can gain even more retention.
