When esthetic considerations are important, an occlusal rest and a lingual “C” clasp may be used in place of a band on the visible abutment. Bonding material can then be placed over the lingual “C” clasp and occlusal rest to add stability and retention. This is also useful if the path of insertion prevents the use of two bands.
